UTNA welcome new board member and treasurer, Doug Meffert

Dr. Douglas Meffert is a Vice President and Executive Director of Louisiana for the National Audubon Society. Audubon's Louisiana team focuses on large scale coastal and gulf restoration as part of the Mississippi River Delta Restoration initiative and protection of many globally significant important bird areas. Doug has a long history in Louisiana, most recently as Director of Project Development and Associate Professor at Tulane University's Payson Center for International Development, and as the Executive Director of River Sphere, an initiative to develop a new campus for the university oriented to water resources and renewable energy. Prior to those posts, he was Deputy Director of the Center for Bioenvironmental Research, a joint project of Tulane and Xavier Universities. Doug received a Loeb Fellowship at Harvard's Graduate School of Design and is a faculty associate at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in Cambridge, MA. He holds an MBA and Bachelor of Engineering from Tulane, and a PhD in environmental science and engineering from UCLA. In addition to his new board membership on UTNA, Doug currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors of WRBH Radio for the Blind and Print Handicapped and as Treasurer for the Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development. Former appointments include Treasurer for the Alliance for Affordable Energy, Treasurer for the Lower Quarter Crime Watch Association, and advisory board member for the Trust for Public Land Louisiana Office.
