As an intern for WhoData.org and with the Department for Planning and Urban Studies at the University of New Orleans, UTNA member Graham Hayes has been working on a project to use public data to most effectively address quality of life issues and allocate resources for a given area. Graham is focusing his research on our neighborhood with the larger goal of creating a framework for city council and neighborhood associations to more effectively tackle quality of life issues. The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), an international organization of planners and geographers, has selected Graham’s project to assist with and will be visiting our neighborhood on Sept. 8 at 8:00 am to conduct and property and street condition survey for the blocks surrounding Banneker Elementary. Everyone is invited to come out and join Graham and URISA as they collect valuable information for our neighborhood.

We are still in need of donations to refill the pet waste dispensers. Our goal is $1200 for the year. We have collected $1055. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Please donate to help keep your neighborhood clean. If you are unable to donate at this time, but would like to contribute, please add your donation to your annual UTNA membership dues with a note that the additional amount is for the pet waste dispenser bags.

Last year, the contributions of 26 people allowed us to purchase 40,000 bags at a cost of about $1200.
This project has been a huge success. A big thank those who generously contributed this year and last, we are very grateful.
